MISSIONS & OUTREACH The following are just some of the ways you can join us in being a real presence of Christ in the Community & the world! Contact GSLC for contact names and phone numbers (512.258.6227). Costa Rica Connection: Good Shepherd is developing a long term mission partnership with Centro Christiano de Alabanza (CCA-Christian Church of Praise). Much of our work with them will be supporting rehabilitation centers for both men and women, as well as their feeding center for children and home for the elderly. COSTA RICA : MISSION TRIPS Prison Ministries: Similar to Kairos, Epiphany Prison Ministry is a program at the Giddings site with twice-a-year weekend events and then groupings on every Saturday. This ministry allows people who want to support “prison ministry” but are too scared to go into an adult maximum prison find a way to help. All that's needed are hearts that are able to minister to youthful offenders in an effort to ensure that they never become adult offenders. It also allows both husband and wife to go “inside the wire” together, while the Kairos ministries do not. Those interested in this ministry should contact Jim & Rosie Janke @ jrjan@sbcglobal.net To learn more about Epiphany, Click Here. Random Acts of Kindness: This mission inspires people to practice kindness and “pass it on” to others. This team is responsible for making and serving tacos on rotational Sundays. The following week the team is responsible for spreading kindness throughout the community. Thrivent: Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a fraternal benefit society existing solely for the benefit of its members and their beneficiaries; and for the assistance to Lutheran congregations and institutions, and other endeavors as the board of directors may determine. See www.thrivent.com for more information. Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need . http://www.habitat.org/ Faith in Action Caregivers: Faith in Action was established in 1986 as a result of requests by older adults in the far northwest Austin, Texas area for senior transportation and other services not available in the area. Bags of Hope: This ministry is dedicated to being an example of God’s unconditional love to the abused and neglected children in our midst. Supplies or monetary donations are always welcome. Volunteers are also needed! Contact Linda Krompart at lkrompart@suddenlink.net . Established in 1982 as a 501(c)(3)corporation, our goal is to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children we serve. FFP raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need. In this way, the organization serves the poor with dignity and ensures the most appropriate use of donors' funds. Blood Drives: On site blood drives provide a convenient way for people in the community and church to share their health. The need is great so please consider working with this ministry. It is an ongoing commitment, with a blood drive usually scheduled every 8-10 weeks. The requirement is that you have a willingness to donate and be at least 17 years of age.
