DISCIPLESHIP / STUDENT MINISTRY / CHILDREN'S MINISTRY / ATRIUM PROGRAM Contact Info: What is the Atrium? The Atrium is a method of religious formation quite different from published programs. In this approach, there is a room prepared for the children in which every object is a help to knowing God. It is a place of simplicity and order, prayer and work, and reverent community. Everything in the Atrium is intended to be appropriate to the ages and sizes of the children who gather there. The religious needs of the children actually guide the catechesis. The Atrium allows the children to come into contact with scripture, the liturgy of the church and for the older ones, the whole of sacred history. There is a baptism area, an altar table, a geography area, and a prayer corner. Children linger and develop their capacity for prayer and concentration through reflection of God's greatest gift of love in Jesus. The Good Shepherd parable is the primary focus of the Atrium. The children are introduced to the mystery of the person of Christ. It leads each child to enjoy a relationship with God, a relationship of deep peace, and of being in love with God. The protective aspect of the Good Shepherd meets the human need to feel secure. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light…” Ephesians 5 |
